Last Wednesday (a week ago today) I had a horrible migraine and at about 1 pm I tried to eat and drink something but that did not help. Around 1:30pm, I ended up with blurry vision, a tingling right arm and face and became a bit disoriented.
I called my midwife's office and was instructed to go directly to McKay Dee Hospital's ER. Once my vitals were taken, I was wheeled up to Labor and Delivery and our baby girl and I were monitored for 3 hours. Once assured that the baby was fine and my vitals were better, I was taken back down to the ER for continued vital sign monitoring and a strep throat test because my throat had also been hurting since Monday. The strep test came back negative, my vitals were within ok limits and so they gave me a shot in the hip for the migraine pain and sent me home.
Then on Friday morning I saw my midwife at my normal 36 week appt and my blood pressure was high and I had protein in my urine (early preeclampsia symptoms). At this time, Machelle (my midwife) put me on modified bedrest and sent me back to McKay Dee to get a complete blood panel done and pick up a 24 hour urine kit to collect all of my urine during a 24 hour period. Oh was the urine kit fun......HA! Imagine how many times I have to go to the bathroom at 36 weeks pregnant. And imagine having to "catch" all your urine and put it in a container during the night when you wake 5-6 times to go. Ya, real fun, oh and I had to keep it cold so I had a bucket of ice water in my bathroom with the collection container in it and so I had to go downstairs a few times during the night and several times during the day to get more ice to make sure it was kept cold!
I saw Machelle again on Monday and my blood pressure was better, but still high and there was still protein in my urine, but not as much. SO, the bedrest must be helping and I will see her again tomorrow for more tests. Basically, I am resting and testing and hoping for even better results tomorrow.
In the past week, my outings have included Dr. appointments, Emma's back to school night and taking her to her first day of school with Lucas this morning.
It is really hard to stay in bed or on the couch and I fought it at first, but Lucas has really been laying down the law and he keeps reminding me how serious these symptoms can become. He's really doing a great job handling everything including taking the kids for last minute things for school and dentist appointments as well as keeping them on their daily schedule and we have been so blessed with our friends bringing dinner. Wow, does that ever help!
Here's hoping and praying for better results tomorrow! This little girl needs to cook a little longer!
